BOARD OF DIRECTORS AUG. 6 MEETING

The Brookhaven Industrial Group’s Board met on Aug. 6th to explore some ongoing issues of concern.  Through our directors’ hard efforts and persistence, we were fortunate enough to have in attendance Rich Kruse & Yves Michel (Town Of Brookhaven Reps.); Martin Haley (Commissioner Of Bldg. & Fire Prevention); Brian Carrick (Div. Of Traffic & Safety); Syed Rahman & Eric Lenio(Regional Engineers/NYSDEC) and Sergeant Mike Teplansky (5th Precint Crime Section).

We requested this type of meeting in order to address one of the ongoing issues of improved police presence for our Industrial Parks, especially in lieu of the most recent fatality on Old Dock Rd. (see article).  It was also imperative to have DEC reps on hand to address the odor problems and garbage related incidents emanating from the Waste Transfer station on Old Dock Rd. (see article).  This was also helpful in light of the new waste facility being built right next to Winter Brother’s.

Having key Town Of Brookhaven officials attending our meetings is imperative because it not only puts additional pressure on certain local officials (i.e. the police department and the DEC), but it adds credibility to the strength and importance of our association, aiding in our growth and expansion.

Our second B.I.G. Newsletter will be distributed soon.  We wish to extend our gratitude to Terence Tierney, our fellow Board Member, for all his efforts in creating the Newsletter.

  • Dear Prospective Member:

Established in 2003, The Sills Industrial Park Association (SIPA) is pleased to announce that we have changed association's name to the Brookhaven Industrial Group Inc. (BIG) to better symbolize our planned expansion. Once consisting of those companies in the industrial park only, we are now encompassing a larger geographical area. With this name change, a myriad of new possibilities consisting of new and exciting projects and better environmental services are possible for us.  As the Brookhaven Industrial Group, we will address our requests and concerns to the Town of Brookhaven to preserve the value of our properties with a larger and stronger voice.

The Sills Industrial Park Association made many strides and improvements to our industrial park in the past. We have addressed many issues including moving the building for the Caithness Power Plant 235 feet from the property lines on Old Dock Road as compared to 60 feet as was originally planned; we completed needed repairs and maintenance to our infrastructure, acquired snow removal and street sweeping in a timely manner, and effectively cooperated with Suffolk County Police Department in addressing criminal activities in our area.

Further benefits of membership are networking with business owners for group acquisition of products and services, inter-company trading opportunities as well as having a voice in the future of our businesses in the Town of Brookhaven. SIPA had guest speakers, from various organizations, speak at our meetings to educate and inform our members about products and services available to us. Companies such as Optimum/Cablevision, Verizon, Suffolk County Police Department, various service companies as well as local Town Officials have spoken to our group.

Our meetings are held monthly except for July and August.

We would be delighted if you would contemplate joining our group. So plan to attend our next meeting to see for yourself how we can work together. The annual membership dues are only  $100.
